Urban Sketching – Capturing the City with Tere Lojero

As part of the FASMA 2026 program, renowned watercolor artist Tere Lojero presents Urban Sketching: Capturing the City, an immersive workshop designed to help participants discover the art of observing, interpreting, and documenting urban life through drawing and watercolor. Combining artistic exploration with direct observation, this hands-on experience encourages participants to see the city with fresh eyes and transform everyday scenes into expressive visual stories.

Urban Sketching has become a worldwide artistic movement that celebrates drawing on location as a way of preserving moments before they disappear. Rather than creating perfect reproductions, participants learn to capture the atmosphere, rhythm, and character of a place through quick sketches that reflect their own personal perspective.

About the Workshop

Throughout this intensive workshop, participants will develop essential skills for sketching architecture, streets, and everyday urban scenes. Tere Lojero will demonstrate how to simplify complex subjects, compose engaging sketches, and capture changing light and movement with confidence and spontaneity.

The workshop covers the fundamentals of urban composition, perspective, observation, expressive line work, and watercolor techniques while also introducing practical tools such as sketchbooks, pens, pencils, and portable watercolor kits. Participants will learn how to build a lightweight sketching setup suitable for drawing anywhere inspiration appears.

Following the introductory session, participants will head outdoors to sketch around Fábrica La Aurora, working directly from life while receiving personalized guidance and constructive feedback from Tere Lojero. The experience emphasizes both technical development and the cultivation of an individual artistic voice capable of transforming ordinary city scenes into meaningful works of art.

About the Instructor

Tere Lojero, an architect educated at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), has devoted her career to watercolor painting since 1998. With more than thirty solo exhibitions and numerous international group exhibitions, she has become one of Mexico's leading watercolor artists. She currently serves as President of the Mexican Society of Watercolorists (SMA) and has held major leadership positions within the International Watercolor Society (IWS), promoting watercolor and Urban Sketching through workshops, exhibitions, festivals, and educational programs around the world.
