Urban Sketching – Talk & Live Demonstration with Tere Lojero

As part of the FASMA 2026 program, the Instituto Allende presents an inspiring introduction to the world of Urban Sketching, the international movement that transforms everyday city life into art through direct observation and drawing. Acclaimed watercolor artist Tere Lojero, joined by architect and watercolorist César Gordillo, will share her creative process, artistic philosophy, and the techniques behind capturing urban life with sketchbook and watercolor.

Originally developed as a tool for painters and architects, Urban Sketching has grown into a worldwide artistic community that celebrates drawing on location as a way of documenting the world with authenticity and creativity. Today, it remains one of the most vibrant and influential movements in contemporary watercolor.

About the Event

The program begins with a 45-minute conversation between César Gordillo and Tere Lojero, exploring her artistic journey, creative process, and the ideas behind her urban sketches. Together they will discuss the origins of Urban Sketching, its influence on contemporary watercolor, and the importance of drawing directly from life.

Following the discussion, Tere Lojero will present a 75-minute live demonstration, creating an urban sketch in real time while explaining her approach to observation, composition, perspective, watercolor techniques, and visual storytelling. Audiences will witness every stage of the creative process, from the first lines to the final watercolor washes.

The experience concludes with an interactive question-and-answer session where participants can ask about materials, techniques, sketchbooks, watercolor, creative practice, and everything related to Urban Sketching. Whether you are an experienced artist or simply curious about drawing, this event offers valuable inspiration and practical insight.

About the Artists

Tere Lojero, an architect educated at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), has devoted her career to watercolor since 1998. She has presented more than thirty solo exhibitions and participated in numerous international exhibitions. Currently serving as President of the Mexican Society of Watercolorists (SMA), she has also held leadership positions within the International Watercolor Society (IWS), becoming one of Mexico's leading advocates for watercolor and Urban Sketching.

The discussion will be moderated by César Gordillo, a Mexican architect and watercolor artist internationally recognized for his exploration of light, atmosphere, and transparency. His paintings are included in prestigious museum collections, and he has twice received the Tlacuilo Trophy, one of Mexico's highest distinctions in watercolor painting.
