SONES Y CHANSONS: A Musical Journey Between Mexico and France
As part of the FASMA 2026 program, the historic Templo de la Tercera Orden will host SONES Y CHANSONS, a unique choral concert celebrating the cultural dialogue between Mexico and France through music. With France as this year's featured country, the program brings together two rich musical traditions in an inspiring performance that highlights their beauty, history, and artistic spirit.
Featuring 47 singers on stage, this special concert presents a carefully curated repertoire of beloved Mexican and French songs performed by the acclaimed Coro Promúsica México A.C., under the direction of César Castro, with distinguished concert pianist Svetlana Lougonova at the piano. Together, they create a memorable musical experience where cultures meet through harmony and song.
About the Concert
The program blends iconic Mexican classics such as Cielito Lindo, Bésame Mucho, México Lindo, and traditional Son Jarocho music with celebrated French works by Gabriel Fauré, Georges Bizet, and the beloved music from Les Choristes. The result is a vibrant musical journey filled with elegance, emotion, and cultural richness.
Founded in 1985, Coro Promúsica México A.C. is one of Mexico's most respected choral ensembles. Throughout its distinguished history, the choir has collaborated with the country's leading orchestras, performed major symphonic-choral masterpieces, and made history as the first Mexican choir to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The performance is led by acclaimed choral conductor and vocal pedagogue César Castro, while internationally recognized pianist Svetlana Lougonova, a professor at Mexico's National Conservatory of Music, provides the piano accompaniment. Together they present a program that celebrates artistic excellence while honoring the musical traditions of both Mexico and France.
